
What is FLEX?
The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program funded by the U.S. Department of State. FLEX students spend an academic year in the United States living with a volunteer host family and attending a U.S. high school. FLEX students gain leadership skills, learn about American society and values, and teach Americans about FLEX countries and cultures. The primary goal of the FLEX program is to improve mutual understanding and develop and strengthen long-term relationships between citizens of the United States and other peoples and countries.
There are currently 21 countries that participate in the FLEX program. These countries include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.

SPRING WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITIES
Workshop for Youth Leaders in English Teaching (WYLET) - April 4-10, 2020 in Washington, D.C.
(Deadline to apply - October 24, 2019 at 4:00 PM EST)
This one-week program is conducted in Washington, D.C. for 28 students: Participants will learn classroom teaching and leaderships skills. The workshops will focus on developing participants’ abilities to teach English to other youth to help them qualify for ECA and Embassy supported programs when they return home.

FLEX Civic Education Workshop (CEW) - February 8-14, 2020 and March 7-13, 2020

CEW's are week-long programs in Washington, D.C. conducted by American Councils and the American Civics Center, for approximately 200 FLEX and 200 YES students. The workshops provide an opportunity for participants to learn firsthand about the U.S. federal system of government and other important concepts through seminar discussions, briefings, and meetings on Capitol Hill.
