Student Insurance |
All Pan Atlantic students are covered by health insurance. Most students are covered by a PPO/NAP policy arranged through Pan Atlantic Foundation called “Aetna”.
When visiting a doctor’s office or medical facility, students should take their insurance card and Permission for Emergency Treatment Form(included in student application). If a student is seeking medical attention they should always contact their Area Representative for guidance. If the doctor’s office will not bill the insurance company for the student, then the student is responsible for paying the doctor’s office. They will need to keep all receipts to submit a claim to the insurance company for reimbursement. |
Sick and need to see a Dr. ?
Follow these steps when you are sick or need to see a Doctor.
1. Let your Area Representative know that you are sick and want to see a Doctor*. They are trained in this subject and can assist you and your host in finding you the appropriate care.
*We urge students to go to an Urgent Care or regular doctor. IF you go to the Emergency Room (ER) and they do not admit you, you will have to pay $350 out of pocket for your visit.
2. You will need to take your insurance card and student ID card. Your host will also need to take your permission to treat form that can be found in your application. (this is a form your parent(s) signed so that you can receive medical attention)
* Your insurance provider is Aetna NOT Pan Atlantic.
3. IF you receive a prescription for medication you must pay for your medication at the pharmacy. You will need to keep all of your receipts so you can fill out the form below and send it along with your receipts to the insurance company and they will reimburse you. In order to be reimbursed you must send your form and receipt within 60 days or less. ( You may also use this form if your medical provider does not bill the insurance directly.)

Frequently Asked Insurance Questions
Hunting- Is it allowed?
The program rules state the students must follow local laws, and this includes laws regarding firearms. Students are responsible for reading the exclusions on their health insurance, which is covered in their handbook, on their visa letter, and on the website provided to them. There is no statement of exclusion of firearms on our insurance policy, except that self-harm is not covered. The students, natural parents, and host parents signed documentation stating they agreed to abide by federal, state, and local laws, which would include those related to the legal use of firearms, and the proper supervision required to do so. However, if any student or host family feels they should have their natural parent permission for this activity, please encourage them to contact the natural parents directly.
ATV’s or farm equipment- Are the students allowed to drive these?
The program rules state students must follow local, state, and federal laws, and this includes laws regarding motorized vehicles (this does not include driving automobiles which is prohibited per the program rule). Snow Skiing- is hitting the slopes covered under student insurance?
Yes! Snow skiing is an activity that is covered under the student insurance policy. This even includes emergency rescue.
Water skiing- is it covered under student insurance ?
NO! Water skiing is not covered by the student's insurance. Students may water ski but if they have an accident and need medical attention they will be required to pay out of pocket for their medical expenses. Insurance will deny all claims associated with water skiing.
Driver's License- can a student get their license while in the US?
This is a tricky question that we get over and over from students because the cost of obtaining a license in their country is much higher than in the US. Typically a student is not able to get their license while on program because driving of any kind is not covered by their insurance policy. However, if a driver's education course is offered by the student's school and the school provides a vehicle and carries the liability- the student may enroll in that course to obtain their license. At no time should the student drive outside of that course or drive a personal or host family vehicle.
