Semester-to-Academic-Year Extension Policy
Pan Atlantic Foundation (PAF) may allow a student who was originally accepted for a one-semester J-1 Secondary School Student Program to request an extension to a full academic-year program when they remain with the same host family and school.
Extension Fee
The fee to extend a student from a one-semester program to a full academic-year program is $1,300 USD.

Extension Approval
Program extensions are not automatic or guaranteed. All extension requests are subject to review and final approval by Pan Atlantic Foundation.
Before approving an extension, PAF must confirm:
Request Deadline
Extension requests should be submitted to PAF as early as possible and no later than October 15th.
Host Family and School Approval
A host family's agreement to host the student for the original semester does not obligate the family to host the student for an additional semester. The host family must voluntarily agree to the extended hosting period.
Likewise, approval of the student's original semester enrollment by the U.S. high school does not guarantee approval for an additional semester. Continued enrollment must be confirmed by the school before PAF approves the extension.
Program Documentation
Once all requirements have been satisfied and the extension fee has been received, PAF will process the approved extension and update the student's program records and documentation as required.
Students may not remain in the United States beyond their authorized program period unless the extension has been formally approved and all required documentation has been completed.
**On rare occasions exceptions may be considered if a new family or school is requested. The fee would be $2500 as a new placement would require additional placement fees to be paid to the Area Rep as well as qualify the Area Rep for a travel point for the international trip.

- Required updates to the student's program documentation and records
- Additional student insurance coverage for the approved extension period
- Continued program administration and support through the student's revised program end date

- The student's natural parents/legal guardians and sending organization approve the extension.
